Tutorial for owners
Build your car's Vehicle Passport in about 10 minutes
Start a free garage, get your receipts in without changing your habits, and finish with one shareable Passport link that proves what you spent.
About 10 minutes · 6 steps
What you'll have at the end
- A garage with each of your VINs decoded and verified
- Receipts flowing in by upload, forwarded email or text
- A reviewed service timeline with dates, mileage and costs
- A redacted Passport link you can send to a buyer
Step by step
- 1
Create your free garage
Sign up with email, Google or Apple. Owners are free forever — unlimited vehicles, up to 50 documents and one Passport link, no card required.
Tip: On iPhone, add 1ownr to your home screen or install the app so photo capture is one tap away.
- 2
Add a vehicle by VIN
Enter the 17-character VIN and 1ownr decodes the year, make, model and trim automatically, then seeds any factory and recall data it can find. Add current mileage so forecasts stay accurate.
Tip: No VIN handy? Add year/make/model now and attach the VIN later from the vehicle page.
- 3
Turn on zero-effort capture
In Settings, grab your dedicated forwarding email and forward shop invoices straight from your inbox. Verify your phone to text a photo of a paper receipt right from the counter.
Tip: Save the forwarding address as a contact called '1ownr' so forwarding is two taps.
- 4
Upload what you already have
Drag in PDFs and photos of past invoices. The AI reader pulls the shop name, date, mileage, cost and line items from each one.
- 5
Review and correct the extraction
Open each draft record, fix anything the reader misread, and save. Reviewed records are what buyers see, so a few seconds here is what makes the history credible.
Tip: Categorize records (maintenance, repair, tires, inspection) so the timeline reads cleanly.
- 6
Share your Passport
From the vehicle page, create a Passport link. Choose whether to include costs, vendors, the VIN and documents, set an expiry, and send it. You can revoke access at any time and see how often it was viewed.
Tip: Selling through a shop or dealer? Use 'Share with a shop or dealer' — it's free with verified businesses and they can add records back to your passport.
Common questions
- Does the buyer see my personal details?
- No. A Passport link shows the service timeline you chose to include. Your name, address and account details are never part of the shared view, and you control costs, vendors, VIN and document access per link.
- What happens when I hit 50 documents?
- Your existing records stay exactly as they are. You can add a Passport add-on for $1.99 when you need more capacity or extra share links.
- Can I fix a record after it's saved?
- Yes. Every service event stays editable and each change is versioned, so the timeline can be corrected without losing the original extraction.
